AIAA is accepting nominations for its new 30/30 recognition program, which will honor 30 early-career aerospace professionals in their 30s. Nominations are open through 15 June 2026.
Honorees will represent the best and the brightest from across the aerospace sector. Specific categories include: Aerospace Design and Structures; Aerospace Sciences; Aircraft Technology, Integration and Operations; Information Systems; Propulsion and Energy; Space and Missiles; and a seventh category for individuals who do not fit into any of the above technical areas (e.g., public policy, marketing, business development, etc.). Profiles of the top recipient from each category will be featured in the October–December issue of Aerospace America.
AIAA CEO Clay Mowry framed the program as a celebration and a pipeline-building effort, noting that recipients represent the profession’s future leaders. The initiative comes as the aerospace industry grapples with a widening talent gap driven by an aging workforce, rising demand for technically skilled engineers, and growing competition from the broader tech sector.
“30/30 builds on AIAA’s record of excellence in recognizing standout leaders in aerospace,” said Mowry. “This new program celebrates the next generation’s ingenuity. They are the future leaders and technical pioneers in our profession.”
Mowry emphasized that the 30/30 program complements AIAA and its corporate members’ efforts to nurture the next generation of aerospace talent. Building that pipeline is key to the industry’s future growth. He pointed to a looming talent shortage and the growing need for new expertise in AI, autonomy, and electrified aviation. According to Deloitte, 25% of the aerospace & defense (A&D) workforce has more than 20 years of experience and is at or beyond retirement age. In addition, the industry is projecting engineering vacancies to exceed 1 million by 2030.
Beyond the magazine recognition, 30/30 recipients will receive a complimentary year of AIAA membership, free registration to an AIAA forum or event in 2027, and opportunities to participate in mentoring and peer networking sessions at AIAA events.
