Danilo de Camargo Branco, Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace, Physics and Space Sciences at the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT), serves as the Faculty Advisor for the AIAA FIT Student Branch.
In 2025, Branco was one of six faculty advisors selected to receive the AIAA Faculty Advisor Award in recognition of his extraordinary leadership, mentorship, and unwavering dedication to his student branch. Through his guidance, the FIT Student Branch has strengthened its engagement, professional development programming, and technical involvement within the aerospace community.
Upon his arrival as Faculty Advisor, Branco immediately implemented strategic improvements that elevated the branch’s operations and impact. He realigned the branch budget, achieving its most accurate financial reconciliation since 2020, and partnered with institutions and industry organizations to secure more than $20,000 in private and industry funding. He played a pivotal role in mentoring the rocketry team through AIAA Florida Tech’s first-ever hydrostatic motor tests and successfully led the branch’s return to the AIAA Design/Build/Fly Competition.
Branco also emphasized professional engagement and career development. He encouraged students to participate in networking events with professionals at NASA Kennedy Space Center and the AIAA Cape Canaveral Section. Under his mentorship, students presented papers at the 76th AIAA Region II Student Conference in Greensboro, North Carolina, which were then published. These accomplishments contributed to his recognition by FIT as the 2025 Advisor of the Year during his first year as a faculty member.
“In every endeavor, [Branco] exemplifies the qualities of a remarkable mentor and leader. His tireless efforts have not only strengthened the AIAA Student Branch but have also cultivated an environment where students are encouraged to dream big, work collaboratively, and strive for excellence” said Susie Allen-Sierpinski, AIAA Associate Fellow and AIAA Cape Canaveral Section Chair. “I wholeheartedly endorse Danilo Branco for the AIAA Student Branch Faculty Advisor Award.”
Through his dedication to experiential learning, professional development, and student empowerment, Branco exemplifies the qualities recognized by the AIAA Faculty Advisor Award and continues to make a lasting impact on the next generation of aerospace engineers.
