Ryan B. Bond, 50, died on 16 January 2026.
Bond earned a bachelor’s in aerospace engineering and mathematics from Mississippi State University, an MBA from the University of New Mexico, and master’s and doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering from North Carolina State University.
He spent seven years at Sandia National Laboratories, serving as both a scientist and later manager of the Computational Fluid and Thermal Sciences Department, contributing to the DOE/NNSA Advanced Strategic Computing Program. Bond also worked at Arnold Engineering and Development Center, bridging applied research and national defense.
Most recently he served as a Research Professor at the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI), bringing expertise in computational fluid dynamics, hypersonics, and high-speed aerothermodynamics. Bond’s work supported advanced modeling and simulation efforts central to UTSI’s research mission.
An AIAA Associate Fellow, he authored more than 50 publications and was inducted into NC State’s MAE Alumni Hall of Fame in 2025. Bond volunteered at AIAA as a member of the Thermophysics Technical Committee and an associate member of the Fluid Dynamics Technical Committee.
